‘A masterpiece…social history brilliantly told – here, on the baize, is Thatcher’s Britain in microcosm.

New Statesman

I directed the second episode of this three part series, executive produced by Louis Theroux. The episode focuses on the 80s golden age of the green baize, as snooker emerged from smoky working men’s clubs to become a mainstream sport adored by millions – a money-spinning sporting soap opera. At its centre, a clash between wildchild, Alex ‘Hurriance’ Higgins, and his clean-living nemesis, Steve Davis – a player who incarnated the ruthless professionalism of the coming age.
